Radon Testing

Radon is produced as uranium and radium decay in the soil around us.

As a gas, radon travels through the ground and eventually escapes harmlessly into the atmosphere … unless it encounters your home along the way.

If it does, it may enter your home and develop a concentration that you and your family breathe. As radon in your home further decays, it becomes other elements that can increase your risk of developing lung cancer.

The link between radon and cancer has long been acknowledged by the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Lung Association, the American Medical Association, the National Academy of Sciences, the World Health Organzation, the National Environmental Health Association, and a host of other groups.

For this reason the EPA ranks radon a "Group A" carcinogen, and recommends that you take action if your home contains more than 4 picocuries of radon per liter of air. Today’s radon mitigation systems are very effective and relatively inexpensive.

A radon test – and the information that comes with it – is something you should know about your home.
